You can transfer files ('sideload') from your personal computer to your NOOK HD/HD+.

Using the USB cable provided with your NOOK, connect your NOOK to your computer.

Windows users: The first time you connect your NOOK to your personal computer, Windows will update the device drivers; going forward, your NOOK HD/HD+ will mount as a media (MTP) device and will be listed by its model number, “BNTV400 (HD), BNTV600 (HD+)”. Once the drivers are updated, Windows will prompt you to choose how to treat the device; choose “Open Device to View Files using Windows Explorer.” NOOK will appear as a new Portable Media Player device named BNTV400 on your personal computer.

Mac users: the first time you connect your NOOK to your Mac, you will see a “NOOK” device on your desktop. From there, run “MyNOOK Setup” from the provided link, which is a one-time installation. “MyNOOK Setup” allows for your device to appear on your Mac as a removable drive called “MyNOOK” for you to transfer your personal files.

To organize the files, open the BNTV400/600 / Internal Storage folder (Windows) or the “MyNOOK” device (Mac). You'll see several folders on your NOOK. Move your personal files in the My Files folder. (If you have an SD Card installed in your NOOK, you will also see a folder called “SD Card” with the same folder structure inside. You can move files here to store them on the SD Card.)

Within the folder, you can sort files into these folders:

· Books

· Documents

· Magazines

· Music

Barnes

· Newspapers

· Pictures

· Videos

Noble

· Wallpapers

· NOOK Kids Recordings

You should place Microsoft Office files, .txt files, and PDFs in the Documents folders.

You should place your music, such as MP3 files, in the Music folder.

You should place your pictures, such as .jpg and .png files, in the Pictures folder.

You should place your videos, such as MP4 files, in the Videos folder.

Other Methods

· Library eBooks are supported natively on NOOK HD and HD+ through OverDrive and/or the 3M Cloud Library. These third-party applications are free in the NOOK store, and don’t require side-loading; you can download your books directly to your device. See the separate help sections for more details.

· Windows users can also use Windows Media Player to sync supported audio and video files; see the Windows Media Player help section for more details. Note that eBooks cannot be transferred with Windows Media Player.

· Adobe Digital Editions for Windows does not currently support MTP Media devices, like NOOK HD and HD+. You can use ADE to unlock protected (DRM) files, but you must manually copy them to your NOOK as described above. (Mac users can use ADE to directly transfer books after the one-time installation of the MyNOOK Setup drivers.)

When you have finished arranging files, simply disconnect the NOOK cable (Windows) or eject the MyNOOK icon by dragging it to the trash (Mac).

NOTE: If the NOOK device is not appearing on the Mac desktop, try switching from MTP to PTP mode in the NOOK HD/NOOK HD+ settings menu (MTP not supported by Mac).

To switch to PTP mode, complete the following:
